Great article, love transparency
My dad got me a leather zara jacket, and thats literally the only piece of theirs i own.
Usually when i hear sustainable, my bs alarms start sounding because somebody wants to charge more for a product of lesser value by trying to make me feel bad (or virtuous). These jeans are OK, I have both the selvedge and the ones with spandex and the fit and feel are great. The selvedge doesn't feel as good as the expensive Japanese brands, but nevertheless, they feel darn good. OK regularly sells both types at the end of the season for $88 and that seems like a pretty good value. I hope to wear a pair out and try to get them replaced under warranty.
The use of platic bags for an "eco" brand is really an oxymoron.. 😂
Hey Garik , really nice video! I was wondering if I could help you enhance Editing in your long & short videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail which will help your video to reach to a wider audience ?
H&M is greedy and corrupt at its core and is does not mind coming up with new tricks that are similar to defrauding employees and consumers. During Covid H&M Business Tech at Bangalore, India did something akin to what slave traders did during the colonial era in India. Back in that period British and Dutch merchants came up with the concept of "Agreement" where they made promises of wealth, if the people served in there remote colonies for a period of time. The people who signed this agreement in local slang were called "Girmitya", right after they boarded the ship these people realized they were required to pay for food, water, lodging, everything. In effect whatever they earned was to be paid back to the same traders for whom they were working. Coming back to what H&M did recently here in Bangalore, they setup there "Business Tech" division where they hired more than 300 employees from IT and Fashion industry in two years. They celebrated this event on platforms like LinkedIn with a lot of gung-ho. However after the celebrations were over they came up with a unique policy and declared that they will NOT pay the annual salary to the employees in 12 equal monthly installments. Rather they will retain a large portion of the employees salary only to be paid at the end of the year and only if the person completes the year. As if this was not enough, right before the end of the year they started layoffs in large numbers. These large brands continue to exploit workers because they ask them to sign agreements with such gag orders that prevent them from telling the truth about the company even after they have left the company. - Ex H&M Employee.
Purchased the jacket yesterday with 50% Black Friday sale. I too have not seen a jacket like this before. Great review!
Thanks! How do you like the jacket?
@@EcoStylist yes indeed; it' holding up well in a mild Toronto winter. I intended to run year round with it. I'll be interested to see how well the jacket releases heat while active in spring or early fall conditions
How can we get the data of the LCA related to H&M?
Do the cotton jeans shrink or have you tried?
I have tried their SEA jeans and they didn't shrink-but I didn't dry them. I'd recommend line drying them. If you do that they don't shrink. Cotton almost always shrinks a little bit if you put it in the drier.
Note: we no longer certify IOAN. This video is now 3 years old and we're always updating our research at Eco-Stylist. Keeping the video live for now, in case anyone finds it useful.
Hi EcoStylist, why do you no longer certify IOAN?

Hey man, how about showing the boot, on your feet from different angles?! You missed the most important part; how it actually looks on you! 🤦♂️
Fair point 😅 thanks for the feedback! Will definitely consider more close up footage next time and different angles. If you click through to shop the boots Nisolo does have some pretty good lifestyle photos from different angles-hope it helps!
H&M has been trash for a few years now I use to be able to spend a good amount of money there now I’m lucky if can find anything the layout of the stores aren’t appealing customer service etc list goes on cool if your a 14 yr old kid tho I guess lol
Thank you for the video! It helped me with the assignment

The good thing about Zara: you don't have to buy it. You can find it in other people's thrash.
Thank you so much for that video, the topic is so important! Still there are so many people who don t know how bad fast fashion is. It s so important to spread all these reasons and to tell them to not believe everything a brand like H&M says. I would love to see more videos like that! Thanks a lot!
I literally HATE Zara!! Do you realize if your order online to have the items shipped to the store they can REJECT the item without care to the customer If they received too many packages for the day. Everything in this video is true Will never Shop at Zara and instead will shop at Anthropologie as at least this chain has a sense of true customer service
unfortunately, due to economic and health Armageddon we are now experiencing where even middle-class double working folk in good jobs are struggling to pay for electricity and food and a roof over their heads you will pay for cheap clothes so your children can wear something.. Can a trade commission go there and encourage better working conditions. will us boycotting just cause some factories to close completely and those jobless workers starve?? Its not a black a nd white issue..Does a boycott work with China or behind the scenes negotiations get better results? You are not dealing with a western country here and our methods and cancel culture will probably backfire here ...
All valid questions. Regarding China, there are ethical factories in China such as Fair Trade certified factories used by brands such as Known Supply, Patagonia, etc. So the probably isn't China overall, it's brands like Shein that cut corners and use slave labor in China to achieve their incredibly low prices. This is well documented and the most recent labor abuse investigation found Shein workers working 18 hour days with only 1 day off per month and severe pay penalties for a single mistake: www.businessinsider.com/shein-factory-workers-18-hour-shifts-paid-low-wages-report-2022-10#:~:text=Workers%20at%20factories%20in%20China,i%20newspaper%20in%20the%20UK. Rather than boycott you can instead buy from brands that pay clothing makers fair wages. Currently over 90% of brands don't pay clothing makers living wages. By supporting the less than 10% of brands that do you can make a huge difference. Rather than boycott (where no clothing maker gets paid) it's shifting your support to clothing makers who get fair wages. This supports good jobs and helps shift the industry. As more people support fair wages and draw attention to it, more brands will start ensuring fair wages. It makes a difference. And regarding Shein's prices this is true for some people. But Shein was recently valued at nearly $100 Billion and most Shein shoppers don't fit that description - most Shein shoppers are middle class shoppers who use Shein's very low prices to buy even more clothes (not out of necessity). Unfortunately in the conversation about Shein many people who can afford better clothes use the fact that some people can only afford Shein as an excuse to keep shopping Shein. People who "can only afford Shein" are not the problem. People who can afford to support better brands but choose not to, are part of the problem.
What company?
Shein does use sustainable and reconstructed used clothes though... I have bought a few items
Unfortunately Shein's use of more sustainable fabrics in a small number of their pieces just isn't enough to mitigate the enormous harm they cause. You can find our full evaluation of Shein here: www.eco-stylist.com/its-time-to-find-ethical-alternatives-to-fast-fashion-giant-shein/
Its a sweat shop 😔 I been sickened by this for awhile now I think they are changing their wicked ways but I still shop there because I am addicted to them ...I tried other clothing sites but they have ugly clothes. Shein has really trendy and sexy clothes. I am sorry if I offend anyone.
Hear you regarding addiction and compulsion - it can be hard to change habits. I used to shop fast fashion years ago when I first got into fashion. One book that really helped me was the "Power of Habit." - an incredibly powerful book for habit change and breaking compulsive behavior.
And one other thing that helped a lot was digging into fast fashion. The more you find out the worse it is. Have you seen this video? It's a good primer: ruclips.net/video/xGF3ObOBbac/видео.html
You should be ashamed of yourself. It's PEOPLE with FAMILIES being worked to dust for your clothing?!

the salary thing is americas fault in europe is pretty amazing and many statements have very little sence in general
Is it any worse than larger brands?
SHEIN is actually the largest fashion brand now - they grew to $100 billion company in the last few years outpacing any other fashion brand. But to answer your question yes :) of the hundreds of brands we've researched SHEIN is the only big brand to earn zero points. Other big brands still fail but score in the 20s or 30s out of 100 (brands like Zara and J. Crew)
Just the other day I was thinking about the destruction of the rainforests in Brazil by all those HATS!
Clothing waste and the related resource waste is a huge issue - but not by these hats :)
I Honestly would like to be a sustainable shopper. Not sure if there any clothing stores this side of the US (new English). Do you have a link to a crurated list of basics from a brand or list of brands that are closer to fast fashion prices even if it’s $30 but not $100s more. (Mens essentials) So easy to just run to Kohl’s and just buy something. Do you do 1 on 1 chats?
Hey thanks for the question! We put together this guide on affordable options, if you scroll down to section on "14 brands" there's some great brands with mens essentials: www.eco-stylist.com/most-affordable-ethical-fashion/ I'd also recommend bookmarking our sales page as this is a great way to save on sustainable brands. There's some summer sales ending this month: www.eco-stylist.com/sustainable-brands/deals/ If you have more questions let us know!
@@EcoStylist thanks I’ll check it out
@@EcoStylist I've read through a bit of the content and its clear that fast fashion has a deep rabbit hole with poor feedback and bad business practice. I'm ready to start transitioning to supporting the ethical crew. My question is because most of the stores are not local to me. What store/shop for mens basics on the list you link to that has a good bang for buck for quality you would recommended. Thanks again for what you do.
@@ltlt-gz2ic good bang for buck quality I'd recommend KNOWN SUPPLY, Pact, Toad&Co. Those brands all have basics but what are you looking for specifically (t-shirts, jeans, etc.)? I want to make sure we captured it with those brands.
you should do an updated video of H&M and including H&M sustainability reports! thank you
Not a lot has changed in the last year - are you just curious how much of their reports is greenwashing?
I’d like to see a video about brands that have changed to greenwashing in recent years:)
@@spicygarlicsauce that's a great idea - love it!
Happy I found this channel!
What are some ethical brands close to their prices
First it's important to note that SHEIN's prices are inherently unsustainable. They've cut corners to makes clothes cheaper than they've ever been - at the expense of clothing makers and the planet. Clothes are made by people and they are supposed to be something quality that we value and wear again and again - not something we wear once and then toss. It costs more to do that. That being said we put together a guide that covers this complex issue and the most affordable options: www.eco-stylist.com/most-affordable-ethical-fashion/
Thank you for posting this. I was recently looking at the Everlane site. I'm realizing that I need to pay closer attention to what is going on with some of these companies that purport to be sustainable.
What can we do about this?? I used to love Shein clothes and after finding out how terrible they are I wish there was more we could do to hold them accountable and have them change their ways so we can support them again…
Unfortunately the best thing we can do is not support SHEIN. Generally speaking, there are things fashion brands can do to become more sustainable: pay their workers fairly, use more sustainable fabrics, set goals to reduce waste, water, and CO2. But in the case of SHEIN they are one of the most, if not the most unsustainable brand on the planet. We know this because they drop up to 6,000 new styles a day and are valued at $100 billion, meaning they're out producing their peers (H&M, Boohoo, Zara). They do this by selling lots of really cheap clothes - and it's only possible by exploiting people and the planet. For them to be a brand worth supporting they would need to pay clothing makers fairly, make less clothes, make higher quality clothes, makes those clothes more sustainably, and raise their prices quite a bit to do all this. Their entire business is based on cheap prices and exploitation, for them to change this would be to change their entire business-and that seems unlikely. Fast fashion is a very deeply rooted problem in our society. It feels nice to have the convenience and cheap prices, but over 50% of it ends up in a landfill in less than 1 year. This is devastating to our planet and the only solution I see is to not support fast fashion and instead support solutions that are considering our future: sustainable brands, thrifting, swapping, buying less.
@@EcoStylist it’s true, not to mention they package every single item in a separate plastic bag 😑 why not just put everything I ordered in one bag??? That was the first red flag for me. And it’s sucks that even though more and more people are talking about this, so many don’t care and will keep supporting them.
@@catherinehall8440 Definitely. I think we have to keep sharing the message and keep talking about it. From what I've seen awareness is definitely making a difference, it sometimes feels otherwise because brands like SHEIN have heavily promoted through influencers and celebrities - so they're getting tons of positive and negative press at the same time. We just have to keep up the good fight - it is making a difference :) Saw this post today on IG that you might like: instagram.com/p/CeRDvuGO9TJ/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
h & m is garbage
Unfortunately that's where most of their clothes end up...
@@EcoStylist lmao
I discovered this brand not long ago and I was deciding if I should give it a try. Thanks for the video, I didn't know they also had a section of reused jeans. We all should stop buying fast fashion, for the planet and for the people.
😥 why don't these companies care. They have the resources to see how its affecting the planet and ppls lives.
Why this alarming noise?
Just buy less!
An important part of the solution - and it's free to do :)
Do they run true to size? They don’t have my size but they have a half size down. Would you think it could possibly fit?
Hey! They do run true to size. It looks like Nisolo replaced the Javier Chelsea Boot with the All Weather Chelsea Boot. They look virtually the same but sounds like the latter holds up better on rainy days. I updated the link (here it is for reference: shop.ecostylist.co/uPtsf ) I would recommend seeing if they have the new one in your size first. *I wouldn't recommend going a half size down on these unless you own other shoes in that smaller size that also fit you well.
Thnx for the video.....we must start thinking....it's not fashion if it is not sustainable for mother earth.
Facts.

😂😂😂😂 I feel you. It's 97 bucks on Amazon. I don't get it. I wonder how it would rank with tested brands like skinceuticals.
I only buy 3 to 5 new items per year. Most of my clothes are given to me, or bought used. When linens are worn out, I use them for rags or craft projects. I've made jewelry, doll clothes, ribbons, pot holders, and stuffing from clothing too worn or stained to wear. Tina
That's awesome!
Love this video! Could you do one about boohoo or PLT?
Good ideas - we'll do more fast fashion videos for sure :)

Up cycled leather is vegan friendly
When it comes to vegan fabrics there's a few grey areas: up cycled leather is ok to some vegans, and not others. Similarly, wool that comes from animals that were treated well is ok to some vegans, and not others (who are anti-wool in any form).
